The swine industry’s water demand is lower compared to crops, and is thus less likely to be pressured during the El Niño dry spell, industry officials said. “Unlike crops, (livestock) does not require huge amounts of water as compared to crops,” Jayson H. Mr. Cainglet said that both commercial and backyard farmers have easier access to water compared to crops.

DBP in aquaculture tie-up with Charoen Pokphand Foods

The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) said on Thursday that it signed an aquaculture financing agreement with Charoen Pokphand Foods Philippines Corp. (CP Foods). The DBP’s Aquaculture Value Chain Financing Program will support small and micro enterprises and cooperatives with loans of between P5 million and P15 million to finance 90% of the total project cost, the DBP said in a statement.
